Durutti Column è la targa artistica che  dal 1979 capeggia sui dischi di Mr. Viny Reilly, una cosiddetta one-man band cioè. LC invece è l’acronimo di “Lotta Continua”, una delle tante bizzarrie del musicista, una sigla che non trova riferimenti nei testi né tantomeno nella musica, che è talmente estraniante da rendermi questa trattazione piuttosto ardua.

E’ un disco che pesa come un macigno nel cuore di chi lo ama.
Pubblicato nel 1981 per la leggendaria Factory di Tony Wilson, è considerato uno dei capolavori dell’etichetta mancuniana che due anni prima, nel 1979, aveva già stampato due album “difficili”: Unknown pleasures dei Joy Division e il debutto dei Durutti Column.
LC è uno dei miei LP preferiti di sempre, in piena sintonia con quello che considero un ascolto intenso, emozionale.
Un ascolto faticoso, non piacevole perché ci troviamo ad affrontare un lavoro anomalo, che rivela subito asprezza ma nel contempo ci affascina con un’eleganza fulgida e solenne, a tratti persino monumentale.
I brani sono frutto di una personalissima interpretazione della melodia acustica per chitarra, accompagnata da riverberi, ritmi  cadenzati da percussioni la cui eco disegna uno spazio tridimensionale, vitreo e disadorno. La voce ha un timbro morbido eppure non concede mai un conforto, neppure tiepido, se non in qualche raro bagliore in cui appare come un flebile richiamo alla riflessione per non strappare ogni speranza. Una sottile sensazione negativa su cui è meglio non indagare nella nostra introspezione, un effetto di disagio che, per intenderci, può turbare un adolescente che a notte fonda si imbattesse, impreparato, nella visione di Morte a Venezia.
LC è un concept-album la cui cifra di intensità emotiva è tale per cui non può esser definito “bello”. Chi ha voglia e passione, lascerà a questa musica la possibilità di insinuarsi nella propria testa. L’ascolto dev’essere passivo, nel senso di subìto, ma estremamente attento, allora forse si coglierà l’enorme valore artistico di questo disco.

Ben venga dunque una ripubblicazione fatta con tutti i crismi del caso: i nastri rimasterizzati in analogico e il pressaggio della RTI aiutano ad evidenziare quei dettagli che Vini Reilly seppe amalgamare con tale maestria.
Vinile a parte, se scaricate un file dalla rete poi ascoltatelo in cuffia perché l’irrisoria amplificazione esterna di un pc che legge un mp3 farebbe risultare gli arpeggi della Les Paul (una delle migliori Gibson) come un ritornello da karaoke e la dimensione ambientale, una componente fondamentale di LC, verrebbe mortificata.
